Contemporary Dance Teacher (Part-Time)

STEAMspark is seeking a passionate and skilled Part-Time Contemporary Dance Teacher to guide children through movement styles ranging from classical modern to contemporary techniques. This position is ideal for a dynamic educator who loves working with children and is looking for a consistent, flexible teaching opportunity in a creative and mission-driven school environment.

As our Part-Time Contemporary Dance Teacher, you will lead classes 23 times per week in the afternoons, depending on child enrollment. Children will explore foundational modern techniques and expressive contemporary styles while developing coordination, discipline, and self-expression.

Work Schedule

  • Part-time position
  • Classes held between 2:00 PM 4:00 PM, two to three days per week
  • Exact schedule will be determined based on child enrollment and class grouping

Key Responsibilities

Dance Instruction & Choreography

  • Teach engaging, age-appropriate classes in classical modern and contemporary dance techniques
  • Design warm-ups, exercises, and choreography suited for elementary-aged children
  • Prepare children for any end-of-session showcases or performances
  • Choreograph for and attend our Winter (December) and Spring (April/May) recitals

Child Engagement & Growth

  • Foster a positive, inclusive class culture that supports creativity and confidence
  • Adapt instruction to meet a variety of skill levels and developmental needs
  • Provide constructive feedback to help children grow as dancers and learners

Collaboration & Communication

  • Communicate with families and school staff regarding child progress and schedules
  • Collaborate with arts or enrichment teams to integrate performances into school events
  • Maintain attendance and child records

Required Qualifications

  • Background in dance education with strong skills in modern and contemporary techniques
  • Minimum of 2 years teaching experience with children
  • Enthusiasm for working with elementary-aged children
  • Strong classroom management and communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Dance, Performing Arts, or a related field
  • Experience in choreography or creative movement for children
  • Prior teaching experience in a school or youth enrichment setting
  • CPR/First Aid Certification (or willingness to obtain)
