DESCRIPTION OF WORK
In this role, you will be handling annual and quarterly insurer financial statements, as well as all related supplemental regulatory filings to determine compliance with statues and regulations in support of the Department's solvency surveillance of licensed insurers and providers for the protection of policyholders and consumers. Within prescribed timeframes, this position performs research and determines whether insurers and Continuing Care Retirement Communities (CCRCs) are operating in compliance with insurance laws, rules and regulations and National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) standards and guidelines, as applicable. You can expect to discern the difference between public and confidential information according to insurance statutes, regulations, rules and procedures and ensure that confidentiality is maintained. Additional duties:

  • Customize the nature and extent of financial analysis procedures performed to ensure the effectiveness and efficiency in accordance with the size, risk and complexity of the insurer
  • Summarize and document results of analysis and assessment of risks based on information reviewed as well as communicate with the insurer and other regulators
  • Correspond with company executives, Department staff, NAIC staff and other state, federal, or international regulators to identify and investigate issues, evaluate company responses and propose additional regulatory actions if warranted
  • Follow up on issues identified by other regulators, evaluate responses received, and ensure appropriate resolutions are reached
Work Schedule and Additional Information:
  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with 60-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, two days per week in office. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time.   • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $59,345 (before taxes).

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
  • Successful completion of the Insurance Company Financial Analyst Trainee program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • One year of professional experience in insurance, accounting, finance, economics, business administration, risk-management, or a closely related field; and a bachelor's degree which includes 15 college credits in accounting, finance, or auditing; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training which includes 15 college credits in accounting, finance, or auditing.
